Community Education & Leadership Development

SIREN assists communities in tapping their potential for leadership and to allow empowerment, education and communication among all communities. We organize, mobilize and provide community education presentations to increase civic engagement and empowerment.

SIREN believes that immigrants themselves are the primary agents of change. To promote leadership development and community organizing on health, public benefits and immigration issues, SIREN created two immigrant led community-based projects: Comité César Chávez and Promotoras de la Comunidad.

  • Comité César Chávez organizes families and individuals in the Mayfair neighborhood of East San Jose to engage in immigrant rights advocacy at the local, state and national levels.
  • Promotoras de la Comunidad is an immigrant women leadership development program that educates and organizes Latina women on health issues in the Washington/Guadalupe neighborhood in Downtown San Jose.
