Help Survey the Political Opinions of Immigrants

Immigrants make up two-thirds of the population of Santa Clara County when you include their children. Every year immigrants in Santa Clara County, California and the nation demonstrate their growing political power. As part of Mobilize the Immigrant Vote in California and as a Census Partner, SIREN wants to know the opinion of immigrants including key federal questions about the census and immigration reform and key state issues including governance, revenues, budget, and “wedge” issues that repeatedly appear on state ballots.  Through this survey we will be able to better understand immigrants from different countries and immigrants from within a single country based on their age, gender, family income, years of education, length of time in the US, frequency of voting, etc.

SIREN is currently engaged in a random sample multilingual phone survey to registered voters from the six largest immigrant groups in Santa Clara County: from Vietnam, China, Mexico, the Philippines, India and Iran.   We need bilingual volunteers who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Hindi, Punjabi, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog or Farsi.   We will be asking immigrants to answer a short 15-minute survey.

Please join SIREN community organizers and volunteers on March 14, 17, and 28; April 4, 7, 14, 18, 21, 25, and 28; and if needed May 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23, 26, and 30.  Free training and food will be provided.  The survey will be conducted on Wednesdays from 6-9 PM and on Sundays from 3-6 PM at the SIREN Office, 1425 Koll Circle, Suite 109, San Jose, CA 95112.  For more information contact Cesar Juarez at cesar@siren-bayarea.org, 408-453-3003, ext. 112, or Richard Hobbs at Richard@siren-bayarea.org, 408-460-2999.
