Dear Friends of SIREN,
Happy Holidays! I hope that you are having a peaceful and joyous time with your family, friends and loved ones.
I wanted to take this moment to thank you again for investing in SIREN. Through your support, SIREN has been able to build the political power of multicultural immigrant communities through citizenship, civic participation, leadership development and policy advocacy.
Your commitment for immigrant rights has definitely made a difference, and we are thankful for your support. Despite this year being challenging economically and politically, we wanted to take some time to reflect on how your investment made it possible for SIREN to successfully:
Advocate for New Civil Detainer Policy to Protect Immigrants: SIREN as a partner of the Santa Clara County Against S-Comm Coalition led efforts to pass a policy against ICE collaboration with local law enforcement. Santa Clara County is the first county in California to pass a progressive policy.
Engage Immigrant Voters – as a partner of Mobilize the Immigrant Vote (MIV) Collaborative, SIREN immigrant leaders identified 1,503 immigrant voters from the Latino and Vietnamese communities who would support fiscal reform, where large corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share, to ensure the American Dream is alive for everyone.
Immigrant Leaders Advocate for AB 353 – Through SIREN immigrant leadership program, SIREN immigrant leaders collected over 800 surveys to highlight the impact of car impoundment on low-income immigrants. This survey was used as an educational tool to pass AB 353, which changes the 30-day impound policy statewide to prohibit law enforcement at checkpoints from impounding a car solely because the driver is unlicensed.
Advocate to Preserve Critical Immigrant Programs: SIREN has worked relentlessly to successfully save health and safety net programs for immigrants as a partner with the California Immigrant Policy Center and the California Partnership.
Assisted New Americans: SIREN assisted 474 immigrants to become citizens and continues to lead with CET and the Santa Clara County Citizenship Collaborative the annual Citizenship & Immigrant Pride Day.
