POLICY ADVOCACY
Policy Advocacy promotes policies that protect immigrant rights and works with immigrant community members to make an impact on the political decisions that affect their lives. Policy Advocacy benefits from the input of clients and emerging community leaders on proposed policy solutions that best address the concerns of immigrant communities. Along with community members and the other two program areas of SIREN, we engage in the following activities:
- Monitor and evaluate federal, state and local policies;
- Provide legislative updates and advocacy trainings to community members and service providers;
- Inform community members about important policy issues through the media and other communication avenues, such as newsletters and email list serves; and
- Encourage and promote immigrant leadership by working closely with SIREN's two other program areas, Immigration Services (IS) and Organizing Program. The IS and CELD programs help to shape SIREN's policy agenda.
SIREN is one of four organizations that comprise the California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC). Together, we work to restore and preserve health and social services programs in addition to addressing barriers faced by immigrant communities in accessing services, including citizenship assistance. |
