COMMUNITY ORGANIZER

Agency Description – Services, Immigrant Rights and Education Network (SIREN) is a leading immigrant rights organization in the South Bay dedicated to providing immigrant rights advocacy, community education and naturalization assistance to Santa Clara County’s diverse immigrant communities. The mission of SIREN is to empower low-income immigrants and refugees in Santa Clara County through direct services, community education and organizing, leadership development and policy advocacy. We believe that all people regardless of legal status or nationality are entitled to essential services, human dignity, basic rights and protections, and access to full participation in society.

Position Available: Community Organizer – The community organizer is responsible for coordinating immigrant rights and social justice campaign strategies with Comite Cesar Chavez (CCC) members. The community organizer would be conducting outreach in the Mayfair neighborhood of San Jose to increase civic engagement and empowerment in immigrant rights advocacy. (CCC is a project of SIREN that organizes families and individuals to engage in immigrant rights advocacy in the local, state and national levels.)

Primary Duties

  • Identify, train, and develop new community member leaders
  • Develop, implement and coordinate leadership development campaigns and projects with CCC
  • Help to define and implement necessary trainings to identify topics or issues to effectively address the neighborhood’s leadership and community organizing challenges
  • Ensure the civic participation of CCC members
  • Recruit new community members
  • Plan, organize and facilitate weekly meetings

Minimal Qualifications

  • Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish preferred
  • Experience working with immigrant rights organizations and community-based groups
  • Experience and commitment to working with immigrant communities
  • Experience in grassroots organizing skills including outreach and leadership development
  • Background in immigrant rights issues, including immigration, citizenship and public benefits
  • Good personal organization skills, ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize and use time effectively
  • Complete timesheets, reports and other paperwork as needed in an accurate and timely manner

Other Requirements

  • Occasional work on weekends and evenings
  • Should have own vehicle

Salary & Benefits: $30,000 – $35,000 DOE. Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental and vision benefits.
